I’m too inflexible for yoga! – Yoga with Kelly

I’m too inflexible for yoga! – Yoga with Kelly

Gentle Beginners Yoga Class #withme #athome #letsyoga

If you've never tried yoga before, but always wanted to give it a try, or are quite new to yoga, or just prefer gentle yoga classes - then this class might be for you!

This is a full length yoga class, with a few different modifications and alternative options. We do use a few props - which you can use as well, if you like - a couple of old books, towels or cushion, and maybe a chair would be fine.

There are a few standing poses and a balancing pose - just to challenge us a little bit, but feel free to use a chair, or just leave out that section if you like. At the end of the day this is YOUR yoga practice. It's about YOU. And it's about what makes YOU FEEL GOOD.

I know it's easy to compare ourselves to others, but in reality we are all different, we look different, our bodies are built differently, we've been on different journeys throughout our life - the shapes we make in yoga will look different to the people around us. But as long as it feels good for us, we are doing the pose safely and we don't feel any pain of discomfort, it doesn't matter. If anything, different is great - let's embrace it!

I was inspired to create this class after a number of people had told me they were to inflexible for yoga. I know social media might have us believe that yoga is for super flexible, super fit, super strong people only - but that's not true. In fact most yoga teachers can't do all the yoga poses and are also suffering with various injuries or tightness in certain areas from various activities (for me it's tightness from running and probably working at a desk job for most of my day) - it's just social media doesn't show this.

The truth is yoga is good for lengthening the muscles, which can help improve range of motion, which can make you more flexible. So if you're inflexible then actually yoga might be good for you. But, it's all about finding the right class and the right teacher - and that might be trying a few before you find the right one.

I wrote an article to accompany this class on my website - you can check it out here, if you like: https://www.kellysheldrick.com/2020/05/06/im-too-inflexible-for-yoga/

Of course, one class will not fit everyone, so if you didn't enjoy this class, don't let that put you off. You can always drop me an email and we could discuss maybe some different options, and try something else :)

And if you did enjoy this video, I'd be forever grateful if you could please like and subscribe to my channel.

Thank you for visiting and practicing with me today.

Namaste.

Day 21: Morning Yoga Challenge - Mindfulness

Mindfulness is bringing awareness to the present moment - to your body, mind and the environment around you. During this 10 minute practice you'll be guided through a body scan - which can be done, seated, standing or lying down.

For some people, mindfulness can:
- help you become more body aware
- reduce stress and induce a sense of calm and focus
- inspire creativity
- improve sleep

Similar to mindfulness, during yoga we try and bring awareness and connection to the mind and body. This can be quite challenge for some people at first, as we can be quite disconnected with our body, specific body parts and how our body is feeling. Thus, practicing mindfulness regularly can also help your physical yoga practice, by improving your overall body awareness as moving around the mat.

Day 20: Morning Yoga Challenge - Side Body

We don't often move side to side in our daily life, which means often we are quite tight in the sides of our body. This 10 minute yoga sequence will work on lengthening the muscles in the side (lateral) body. As we stretch one side, the nature of the types of stretches we'll do, will mean we'll also strengthen the side body muscles of the opposite side.
